Tokyo International Anime Fair Executive Committee

Chairman, Shintaro Ishihara (Governor of Tokyo)

greeting_ishihara The Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010 will be held for four days from March 25 to March 28,2010 at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center.

Japanese animation is loved and highly acclaimed by people throughout the world. This will be the ninth time for this fair to be held with the aim of promoting and developing the Japanese animation industry. The fair will feature a“ Trade Show” where 255 companies, including 56 from abroad, had booth exhibits at the last fair;“ Competition,” in which highly innovative works by anime creators from Japan and abroad compete for awards; and various other events that can be enjoyed by people of all ages from children to senior citizens.

In addition, this year’s fair will have“ Symposiums” that offer the latest information directly linking to business development, and the“ Creator’s World,” which provides talented young creators with business opportunities to make the leap from amateur to professional, and on to becoming a major artist.

I hope to welcome many exhibitors and participants, including those engaged in the media contents businesses, to this fair and hope that you will use this opportunity to encounter new works and talent, as well as to experience the attractions and dynamism of Japanese anime. I have high expectations that this fair will provide the perfect setting for interaction between exhibitors and all those related with the anime industry.

The 9th Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) will be held in March, 2010. The fair,

started in 2001 as the“ Anime Expo for the new century”, has expanded gradually both in terms of size and content. In 2009, almost 130,000 people visited the fair and its overseas recognition has been growing. Overseas buyers as well as distributors visiting TAF are also increasing in spite of recent global economic stagnation. Thus TAF is well received not only domestically but internationally, enhancing its presence as an international animation festival. I would like to thank all the exhibitors and related parties involved for their sincere efforts made for TAF.

These days the environment surrounding animation production/distribution is changing dramatically thanks to recent digitalization, which is not limited to the film industry, and diversification of media surrounding end-users.

The biggest goal of TAF is to fur ther promote animation related business as the

representative content business of Japan, corresponding to environmental changes. It is also hoped that TAF can provide all the children in the world with great animation works and serve as a place where visitors including families talk, enjoy and nurture the dreams through animations.

Of course, we welcome par ticipation from industries close to us, such as media

industries including publishing circles, but we also encourage new businesses/industries to actively participate in TAF, the market with potential for new business opportunities.

In 2011, TAF will celebrate the 10th anniversary. To further promote animation industry, expand international exchanges through animations, and make the 10th anniversary forthcoming more fruitful, we would sincerely appreciate your support and participation in Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010.
